El Salvador Day Two "The Lice Undertakers"

By day two we were ready to start on our big project - de-licing all 110 kids. We had planned to do this on the first day, but quickly realized it would not be possible due to our being on "El Salvador time". This meant it took us an hour to get "fast food", and hour to get fabric, and another hour to get the rest of our supplies from the San Salvador Wal-mart. I was like the 95 degree heat was pulling everyone into this slow motion sequence.

The de-licing process pretty much went like this - 1) zap the bugs with the Robi Comb (show below) 2) shampoo 3) shampoo with Nix and let sit for 20 min 4) comb each section of hair with lice comb. Yes, it was intense to do this for all the kids and it took a few days to get through everyone.

Here we are at our beautiful breakfast spot chatting about our lice extermination plan.

Oh, and did I mention it was right on the beach? :)

Our first "victim" aka Carmen.

This is where the women cooked outside the kitchen.

Each of us gravitated to a particular age group. I helped with the babies most of the time. Their mothers are mostly 12 and 13 years old and did not choose to be mothers. It was heartbreaking to see these girls lose their childhood, and I still pray that God gives them hope.

Marvin can't walk, but it's funny how all the kids naturally pitch in to help him get around.
